Captain Timothy J. Politis

Captain Timothy J. Politis was born in 1944 in Manchester, England to PFC Joseph P. Politis United States Army Air Corps and Dorothy (McGurk) Politis and later grew up in Mechanicville, New York.

 

He is a 1962 graduate of Mechanicville High School and a 1967 graduate of Castleton State College (VT) with a Bachelor or Science Degree in History with a minor in Geography.

 

A member of the United States Marine Corps Platoon Leader’s Course program he successfully completed Officer’s Candidate School the summer of 1966 at Quantico and upon College graduation was Commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1967.  He reported aboard at Marine Officers Basic School in late September of 1967 and joined Basic Class 4-68 graduating in March of 1968. Upon Graduation he received orders to the 9th MAB (Marine Amphibious Brigade) with interim stops at Camp Lejeune to attend the Logistics Officers School and Camp Pendleton to pick up and train a replacement Company. He joined the 9th MAB in June of 1968 and served with Operating Battalions of the 7th and 9th Marine Regiments and VMF 122 of MAG 15, 9th MAB operating in and around An Hoa, Go Noi Island and the Arizona territory South West of Da Nang Republic of Vietnam.  Upon returning to the United States then Lieutenant Politis joined the1st Field Artillery Group, Force Troops Pacific, FMF PAC at 29 Palm ,California as the Group S-4 until his Release from Active Duty in January of 1971. 

 

While starting a civilian career in Rutland Vermont he served with H Company 2/25, 4th Marine Division in Albany New York as the Weapons Platoon Commander from February 1971 to February 1974.  Then he served as the Embarkation Officer and Asst. S-3 for the 25th Marine Regiment located in Worchester, Mass from March 1974-February 1977. Later he served as the Commanding Officer of D Company, 1/25, 4th Marine Division located in Topsham, Maine from March 1977 to March 1979.  He left the Marine Corps Reserve in March of 1979.

 

Military Schools attended include TBS, Marine Officer Supply and Logistics School, Embarkation Officers School, and the Command and General Staff College.

 

His awards and decorations and badges include:  Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Vietnamese Campaign Medal w/2 Battle Stars and the Vietnam Service Medal.  He was awarded expert marksmanship badges in both Rifle and Pistol.

 

He is married to the former Elaine Bishop of Radnor Pennsylvania. He has five children and four grandchildren.

 

He is a Chartered Life Underwriter, and is a registered representative of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD). He maintains an Insurance and Investment business in Scarborough, Maine.
