Lieutenant
Colonel Duehring entered the military in 1969 as an enlisted sailor with
the United States Navy and was subsequently assigned to the Brunswick
Naval Air Station from 1970 to 1973. He
separated from the Navy to return to college.
In 1980 he enlisted in the Maine Army National Guard and attended
Officers Candidate School obtaining his commission in 1981 as a Combat
Engineer.
He
served in a variety of assignments to include:
Platoon Leader, TAC Officer for the Maine Military Academy,
Company Executive Officer, Company Commander, Battalion and Group Plans
Officer, Personnel Officer, Officer Personnel Manager, Commander of the
Recruiting and Retention Force, Commander of the 133rd
Engineer Battalion, and Military Plans and Operations Officer for the
Joint Forces Headquarters, Maine National Guard.
He
served a deployment to Afghanistan where he was assigned as the Forward
Tactical Operations Officer for the 240th Engineer Group (TASK
FORCE CHAMBERLAIN) at Forward Operating Base
Salerno. His
awards include: Bronze Star
Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army
Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Navy Good Conduct Medal, Army
Reserve Components Achievement Medal (7th Award), Nation
Defense Service Medal (3rd Award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal,
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army
Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas
Training Ribbon (3rd Award), Armed Forces Service Medal with
“M” (Mobilization) and 20 year device, NATO Medal, Maine Achievement
Award, Army National Guard Recruiter Badge, Maine Honorable Service
Award, Maine “Ice Guard ‘98” Award with Device, Maine Physical Fitness
Award (30th Award) and Maine State Emergency Service Award
(2nd Award). Combat
